William Bartley
Bio
William Bartley was born in 1953 in New Your City. He
studied gold and sliversmithing, and sculpture at The State University of New York at New
Paltz, where he apprenticed under Ernie Shaw from 1982 till 1984. He then went into
business for himself and started Steel Horse Iron Works in 1984, producing
original custom fabricated pieces.
Will has been interested in artistry work since he was a school boy, at first painting in watercolors and ink drawings. He then started to work in steel and stone, in part because it is impervious to the elements. The idea that his art form would last for ages, was something that inspired him.
Although he was born a city boy, he craved for open space and country
living in the mountains, and ended up in upstate New York in 1976. He lived in Woodstock,
NY for 14 years, where he grew a reputation for his work as a metal sculptor.
Will always had a strong love for horses, and in 1976 he owned his first horse, named Chester, and has had horses ever since. His present horse, Apollo was born in 1984, in West Shokan, NY. This love for horses he possess, has helped inspire him in his sculpting work, as you can see on this web site.
In 1999, Will moved out west to Colorado, and now lives on his six acre ranch in Crestone with his young son Zach, along with their two dogs and Apollo. He is presently building a new home for himself and Zach. Will also has a grown daughter, Aja, and a granddaughter, Eve, who live in New Paltz, New York.
Will presently builds and designs out of a small studio on his ranch, where the open spaces, and the Rocky Mountains, imspire him even more.
